The Fallow Deer (Dama dama)
The fallow deer is an elegant creature that was reintroduced to Italy in the early 19th century after being wiped out during the last glacial era. Now inhabiting our woods in great numbers, it represents a sought-after prey.
With graceful and quiet movements, it is renowned as the "ghost of the woods," capable of reaching over 100 kg (220 lb) while roaming vast areas.
As woodlands expand and its natural habitat grows, the fallow deer has established a strong presence here in Tuscany. The quality of the trophies and the difficulty of the pursuit make this animal a challenge for any experienced hunter.
