Roe Deer
The Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus)
If the wild boar is the King of the woods, then the roe deer is the Prince of the Maremma forests. Present in high numbers, the roe deer is a fascinating animal and the smallest deer found in Italy. To give you an idea, this deer can reach up to 32 kg in a nutrient-rich environment, but adult specimens in Maremma typically weigh between 20 kg and 28 kg. With excellent eyesight and acute senses, the roe deer is a challenging quarry to pursue. It is a highly territorial animal, and during the reproductive season, it is spectacular to watch how dominant males behave as they guard their territories and fight younger males for dominance.
Hunting Season
The hunting season of the Roe Deer is dictated by the Government and it follows strict rules regarding gender and age class in respect of reproductive cycles , that is why we take great care in guiding you during your hunting experience and helping you selecting the correct animal to harvest.
- Mature Males :
- From 1st of June - To 15th of July,
- From 15th of August - To 30th September
- Mature Females :
- 15th of August -30th of September,
- 1st of January - 15th of March
- Young Males:
- 15th of August - 30th of September,
- 1st of January- 15th of April
- Young Females:
- 15th August - 30th September,
- 1st January - 15th March
